Śrīla Prabhupāda’s name is Abhay Caranāravinda, “one who is fearless having taken shelter of the lotus feet of Lord Kṛṣṇa.” So this fearlessness is a symptom of spiritual understanding or knowledge. It’s explained that in animal life, fear is very prominent. And in human life without transcendental knowledge is also a very fearful time because no one knows what’s going to happen from one moment to the next. No one knows when they die, where they’re going to go. What is death? What is birth? So naturally that’s a very fearful kind of existence. But when one has a full faith and understanding; faith in Kṛṣṇa, understanding of whom we are; our relationship with the Lord, then it’s very easy to be fearless.
