The best thing is to replace the thought with something positive. So that’s where chanting Hare Krishna comes in. Some other useless thought comes when we reject it, if we just leave the mind blank, whoop, it can come right back in again. So then we can try to concentrate on Krishna, or on our service. So this way when some other disturbing thought comes, we kick it out and then bring back in Krishna. So, then gradually that recurrence of thought reduces, reduces, reduces till finally the person doesn’t even think about it.
