The Real Knowledge

” *aham beeja pradah pita’* ’ I am the seed giving father of all living entities everything there is created by me so you can see that whole material world is running very efficiently , Einstein was considered one of the practically the greatest scientist in the modern era , greatest thinker of scientific thought he came to the conclusion that there must be supreme intelligence behind all of this because everything is got so much order , he came to the conclusion that order represents intelligence , disorder is a result of randomness so real knowledge ends with the understanding that there is God , there is absolute truth , there is Bhagwan ,there is eternal spirit this is real knowledge.

The Mature Devotee and Material facility*

*

Like the government , if you win a lottery they don’t give it to you one time. People waste it. Now they give it to you in 20 year instalments, one year at a time. So like that we need to regulate ourselves. If we take in one time, we will be in illusion. But the mature devotee won’t do something like that. Even if they get some material facility they realise , I’m not going to allow myself to get intoxicated by this , I’m going to use it for Krsna properly.

Love your child

one time Prabhupad was describing things about the danger of attachment and things like that. So then he asked one parent, how do you feel about your daughter? And they said well, I am trying to be detached. Prabhupad said no, this is the way. You love your daughter, you love your child; don’t artificially try to be detached. It is natural to love your child. You love your child but then you love Krishna more and say let me try to make this child a person, that the person is materially qualified as well as becomes also a lover of Krishna.

The inner strength

By the widespread propagation of the congregational chanting of the Hare Krishna mahamantra, that actually people’s consciousness becomes purified, and they are able to see that there is a purpose to life and that they are able to get the inner strength to live according to that absolute standard, they are able to conquer over the hypocrisy and the quarreling by properly chanting and hearing, and as a result they also become peaceful, they become satisfied.

The world of dissatisfied people

The world of dissatisfied people

As soon as we start to desiresomething other than pure devotional service, immediately the symptom is, we are going to be in anxiety. The very moment we desire sense gratification, immediately we become filled with anxiety. Then the syndrome of hankering, fearing and lamentation begins. The unfulfilment begin, everything begin, just as soon as we start to desire that I need this object of sense gratification, I need this particular non-devotional thing, whether liberation, or mystic powers or material gratification. So, we are in a world of dissatisfied people, it’s good for the democratic system, to see that their governments roll, because no government can ever perpetually satisfy their citizens, because the citizens are by nature going to always be dissatisfied as long as they are not God conscious. Their senses will never be satisfied, even if you give everything that a person wants, after a short time they will become bored and want something else. So the unlimited desires of the senses, they cannot be gratified like that perpetually.

Don’t try to put an ocean into a bottle

Don’t try to put an ocean into a bottle

SrilaPrabhupada gave the example, trying to put an ocean into a bottle. We have an ocean of desires, and the body is like a little bottle, you are trying to pack all into one little bottle. So the ultimate result is that, you get frustrated. It simply leads to frustration, and further anxiety, but our spiritual nature, when we absorb ourselves in serving Krishna, and kind of redirect this energies, because Krishna is unlimited, therefore we can through serving Him, our unlimited desires also becomes satisfied . And when a soul is satisfied, then the soul being higher and greater than the mind and intellect, then the mind is also satiated, it’s also satisfied. When the mind is satisfied, then the body also can be controlled , it becomes peaceful. So, the actual only means for achieving peace in the world, is actually to engage in pure devotional service.

The unfulfilled Mind

The unfulfilled Mind

we a have the tendency to try to enjoy unlimitedly, the problem is that, this material body is not unlimited. Krishna, His body is unlimited, because He is not material, He is transcendental. So He can expand unlimitedly, He can enjoy unlimitedly, but this body is not. Everybody even if they want to become there is only a limit how much we can drink, there is a limit how much you can eat, there is a limit to how much you can do anything. The body is limited, and even if you take the body to its maximum limit, the mind and its aspirations are more than the body’s capacity, so then the mind is left unfulfilled.

The Eternal energy

the swatswatera Upanishad explains that there are external shaktis and internal shaktis. We are understanding that the Lord has got internal Shakti and external Shakti. So external Shakti is of lesser magnitude than the internal Shakti. Nonetheless the Shakti exists. Just like in the government the budget outlay may be different for Police department or for welfare or for commerce or for different department but that doesn’t mean that one department doesn’t exist because it gets a lesser budget. Still it exists, it has some functions, you cannot also do without it. Even if the budget is less that doesn’t mean that that function is dispensable. Simply the budget is different, that’s all. So in a similar way external energy budget Shakti one-fourth, internal energy budget three forth, but both has got their values, so they have to be explained. So this has been explained that bahiranga Shakti, antaranga Shakti. The bahira Shakti or the material world is also an eternal Shakti. That material energy is eternal, that’s why even modern physicist have not understood that there is a conservation of energy, energy is always existing, you may burn it, you may melt it, you may change it’s structure but some total energy remains the same. Thus the vedas say that this energy is eternal.

The unproven Darwin’s theory

At least in India, the science of the soul should be a regular course. They teach Darwin. Darwin has never been proven, there is not one evidence that Darwin’s theory of evolution is factual. Rather many scientists say that it is a totally wrong, that scientifically there are many proofs against it. Scientists are saying without fighting among themselves. They say that this theory made in 1800 has got no basis. They are… they will come up with new theories now. So some 14.01 can go to the Galapagos island and see some ah… dogs and different turtles, and he can write some book, and in the book itself he says, “I don’t know this is true or false, but this is my speculation”, and that theory is accepted in all universities, colleges, even in India everyone knows Darwin’s theory. But Krishna speaks Bhagawat Gita, and for thousand of years ago, Buddha, whether the Mahavira, whether… whether…. jorastrian, or so many of great thinkers, even the greek thinker they all say, Aristotle, other, they all say, “that reincarnation is a fact, this is the actual thing about life.”, but there is not one college, high school, university, which is teaching as a regular course, what is the science, or as teachings as one of the…as a opposite or as a alternative to what is Darwin’s theory, the Law of reincarnation of transmigration of the soul.

Nobody can explains the actual position of krishna

it’s recommended for the new devotees to read the first nine cantos and then read the 10th. Of course, today, there are many new devotees here. And they are hearing Srimad-Bhagvatam fairly for a short period of time, but they are listening to the 10th canto. The while other 9 cantos gradually build up one’s understanding of the supreme position of Krishna. Once, when realizes the complete absolute position of Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. How He is creating the material world, how He is maintaining them, how He is destroying them, how He has acted with His different devotees, and in different incarnations, how He has expressed His unlimited potencies and powers. Then when you understand Him in His very Human like form of Krishna, where He plays as a little boy. Then you can understand that this is an expression of His unlimited potency. Since He can do anything, He can also play like a little boy with His friends. When His friends are in danger He can be angry that, “Why my friends are in danger?”. When He wants to, then He can tap on His unlimited resources and immediately understand what to do. And when He wants, He can just play as if He is a little boy, very simply, very intimately, very lovingly and affectionately with His friends. So, it’s understandable, when you see that in total instruction and total information about Krishna.

Srila Prabhupada, mentioned in his Vrndavane Bhajan, that unfortunately when the missionaries came to India and they heard bits and pieces about Krishna, they heard that He was a butter thief, they heard that He was stealing butter and feeding to the monkeys. They heard that He was dancing with the Gopis in rasa-lila. And He was in the battle field of Kurukshetra and so on. So they sometimes criticized, “What type of God are you worshiping? He is a thief!” So, Prabhupada was saying that they only say such foolish things because all the people in Vrndavana, those who are living in Vrindavan, those who are the great, so-called great devotees of Vrndavana, recently, the different Babajis and Goswamis and what not. Because they are not preaching the glories of Krishna, therefore these padres come, make offenses and go, and nobody understands what, nobody explains to them rather, what is the actual situation and position of Krishna. He’s not a thief. That anyway, any of everything belongs to Him, so what can He steal? We are thieves. But rather, Krishna is taking the butter from His mother’s warehouse to feed to the monkeys. These monkeys are great saints, who have taken birth as monkeys, just to get a little butter from the hand of God. This is His special mercy. But because they have such a poor fund of knowledge, and because nobody is explaining to them, you can’t blame them, if no one explains to them how will they get the correct information?

Enjoy, but not at the sacrifice of your spiritual advancement.

We should transform the enjoying attitude to one of trying to please guru and Krishna, that if guru and Krishna is satisfied, that is our enjoyment, that is our happiness. Not that our own sense, pleasure is the standard of happiness. Sense pleasure is actually very despicable, it is very disgusting, because the senses after all are instruments of dead matter, and only come down to the level of trying to satisfy the senses, you just become entangled more and more. It’s a very sudra mentality to want to enjoy the senses, on that type of level. We can see here the twice-born, they are concerned, always with advancing spiritually. The demons, they are also concerned with increasing their sense gratification. And the demigods of course, sometimes the demigods they also fall into the syndrome of wanting to enjoy their senses, but not at the sacrifice of their spiritual advancement, that is very rare.

Generally speaking, the demigods, they want… even if they have a few desires, but they don’t want to sacrifice their spiritual position for that sense gratification. A prime example is when the demigods and the demons were having the tug of war, the demons and the demigods both, were churning the ocean, and when the nectar was produced, somehow or another by tricks, the rahu he was able to get the… he was able to get the nectar, but… so Krishna then appeared in the form of Mohini or the beautiful form of a beautiful woman, and naturally the demons they became very attracted because they are always in a enjoying attitude, they weren’t as concerned about getting the eternal nectar, as they were with enjoying the beautiful woman, enjoying sense gratifica… but the demigods, even though they were also able to see Mohini, they were more concerned with how to get this eternal nectar. Why give up eternal nectar just because of the temp… the beauty of the a… of a… sense attraction.

Somehow or another of course, Rahu one of the demons was able to get nectar into his mouth , but the Sudarsana chakra then chopped off his head, so didn’t go down into his body, just got down to his neck. Because of that Rahu was uh, was able to survive, the head of his became eternally, immortalized. So of course, if there is any eclipse and astrologically the Rahu and just the opposite of Rahu, the Ketu is, the presence of these Rahu demon. I heard from uh, some scientist said uh, astrologically, there is some kind of a invisible force which is in the places of Rahu and Ketu. They take it to be that there is some kind of a uh, vacuum or something produced uh, because of,

some kind of a force produced because of the moon and the earth lining up. Others have said that there… they have recorded that there is some kind of a planet which is not visible but which radio waves, they don’t bounce off the same way they had seen that there is some kind of a globe there, which is uh, not uh, fully visible but there is some kind of a body in there, we hear different things. Normally scientists do not publish their discoveries, if it doesn’t match up with the prevailing theories, if it’s too far out, then there nothing that can explain it, they just uh, they don’t tell anybody about it. There is an institute in Texas I heard, that has taken off this discoveries which nobody can explain, and this is… there are some discoveries like this which are, some of them… just out of curiosity or something… out of something… I don’t know exactly what is the purpose is, but there is supposed to be some kind of a foundation, but actually maintains a list of all these discoveries, but in any case, the point I was trying to make is that how demons, they are very attracted to enjoying the senses, so much so that they completely forget about the opportunity to get a et… immortal life. If sense gratification is strong enough, then they will forget.

A valuable jewel on a cobras head.

Today the society is one sided, seeing only through the material aspect. Because of that, that uh, is also not perfectly done, it is ultimately separated. The character of a person from the education, in fact it’s said that if you educate someone who has a bad character, it’s like pulling a jewel on a to… on a snakes forehead. everyone would want to go for the jewel, but in doing so they will be bitten, they will die. So giving education to uncultured people means that they will misuse the education. Instead of having a proper spiritual consciousness, they have a consciousness to enjoy materially, to exploit, to control. So practically it’s a criminal mentality.

So to educate criminals… just like if you give an education to terrorists and criminals, how they could avoid the law, how they could break the law more effectively, that would be defeating the purpose. But factually this is what’s being done indirectly when people are not being spiritually encouraged. Then that means amongst those people who are going forward for this advanced, what you call advanced education, so many of them are simply in a type of enjoying criminal mentality. Ultimately everything is the property of Krishna. So if we’re taking from Krishna and we’re not giving back to Krishna, we are not acknowledging that Krishna is the owner, that means we are thieves.

The well organised society

As soon as you’re dependant on someone, just like the politicians, they are trying to satisfy the people. Even the ksatriya wasn’t supposed to be dependant. He was supposed to… its not a popular thing, he’s supposed to follow the advice of the scriptures and the brahmanas and naturally the people would become satisfied because society would be well-organized. The people would have enough food, shelter, clothing, and spiritual facility. So when the Brahminical culture broke down when the Brahmanas started to consider themselves an elite cast, and they started to envy the others. So the Ksatriyas became more selfish and greedy without proper guidance from brahminical culture. In this way the whole vedic culture basically fell apart. It didn’t completely fall apart but it started to disintegrate to the extent that all of the… that no emperor could… was powerful enough to maintain the entire India as one empire.

Perfection by practicing bhakti yoga.

There are some people, they focus looking at a candle, some people they do various type of medi… focusing on the tip of their nose. There is others who focus on the Vedanta and mental speculation, focused on the speculating on so many philosophical points, but the bhakti-yogis they are focusing their affection on the Supreme Personality of Godhead. This is… made the… this process can be effectively performed by women, by children, by… also by men: Anyone. Philosophical speculation may not be… may be more the domain of men in general although there are exceptions. There have been great mystic yoginis no doubt, but uh, in the field of bhakti-yoga there are a great… of course, number both men and women uh, realized souls who have achieved perfection by practicing bhakti yoga.

Go out and plough the field.

we keep our mind fixed at the lotus feet of Lord Caitanya, Nityananda, then just like those residents of Bengal, when they saw Lord Caitanya, their mind was spontaneously attracted. That is the proof. When we find that when we come before the deity of Radha-Govinda, Jagannatha, Subhadra, Balarama that our mind is spontaneously attracted to the lotus feet. When we come in the Bhagavatam class, that our mind is spontaneously attracted. That’s a very good sign. Not that a person is sitting in class and we start to doze off. We shouldn’t give up the ship, we shouldn’t give up hope. Prabhupada said in Mayapur, if your sleeping during class, you should go out and plough the field. That time there was one sannyasi, in spite of that he slept. He said, “Now you go out and plough.” Made the sannyasi plough for five days. Then afterward said, “Alright.” You see. If they can’t stay awake in the class, then they should do some work for Krishna at least.

The flood of Krishna consciousness

one who can keep the mind always fixed in Krishna, Prabhupada gave the example, you keep the heart always flooded with the flood of Krishna consciousness, with the ecstasy of uh, the mercy of Lord Caitanya, this is the greatest protection. We pray to Lord Nityananda, that even with a drop of the nectar of His mercy, we can flood our heart with transcendental ecstasy. So in that flood, then we see that the material lust doesn’t sprout. In India, in Mayapur, we go rice paddies. There the rice field is always kept in two, three inches of water, which has two functions. One function is that it keeps the weeds down, because it always under water so none of the weed seeds will sprout. As soon as the water goes down and it gets dry then other grass starts to come up.

So always have to keep the water in the field. The other is that, if you allow the water to go out, then the field, the mud will dry and crack. When it cracks, if you reflood it again, then the water will seep out through the cracks. Then again you have to go through, and with your hands you will go… now they have got machines to do it. They will take the mud, scrunch it up, make it fluffy again, way the water cannot percolate or go beneath it; it creates a type of a barrier. So by constantly chanting and hearing the holy name of Krishna, the messages of Krishha, then practically speaking the heart becomes very soft. So it can also hold the water… the nectar of Lord Caitanya, but if you allow it to dry up by not chanting Hare Krishna, by not hearing about Krishna, by not serving Krishna, let the heart dry up, you see, then that’s a dangerous position then if you do give some sporadic irrigation, that it may not hold it until you again make the proper consciousness. So we get out of all of the cracks, all of the offences which allows… which allow the mercy to avoid us.

The very root of thought

The Bhagavad-gita describes that by contemplating on the object of the senses one develops attachment, from attachment then one starts to develop lust and this way desire, illusion, anger, fall down, everything comes one after another.

So he was there meditating with his half opened eyes, and the object of the senses drew his senses, and then, I am sure that we will see how step after step, how he becomes conquered by the senses. So, this should give us all a good example how we have to at the very root of thought, root of the desire, we have to control the mind, and continually bring the mind back to Krishna. Its very hard for this yogis when they simply meditating on the nose.

The Mind back meditation

Meditate on the omkara, something going on in their ears, they hear the jingling, the jangling, uh, tinkling of bangles, it’s very hard to bring their consciousness back to this meditation, but for the devotee who is having to bring his mind back to the beautiful form of Radha and Krishna , who can bring his ears back to the beautiful sound of the Hare Krishna maha-mantra, then it is possible to control the senses even though the senses are so dangerous, compared to serpents.

The Demon to devour us.

What is the symptom of someone who wants liberation? They are very careful not to take any unnecessary risks. They are very careful that in their devotional service they don’t put themselves in some position where they may lose their sadhana or something even though the need is there. One has to go to some new place and preach, open up a new field, develop a new preaching. But someone who wants liberation will think “Why I have come for peace to this movement, I don’t want to go in such a difficult situation. I have come out of the material world which is so difficult, so filled with miseries, so I could get peace of mind, so I can get liberation. So why do I want to take so much jhanjhat, so much complications, so many difficulties, why will I accept, like going out on sankirtan, getting pinched or getting hit or getting yelled at or when my temple commander gets on my case to get up for mangala arti, I didn’t come to Krishna consciousness for this. I came for peace. I didn’t come to Krishna consciousness so when I eat with my left hand someone barks at me, ‘Wrong hand!’ I want peace. I didn’t come to Krishna consciousness that they sprinkle water on you when I am sleeping because I am late.” You see, These are when you are coming out knowledge when you are coming out of some desire for liberation, peace, but that is another danger, it is just another demon to devour us.

What is the symptom of someone who wants sense gratification?

They are very conditional in their service. They will serve but they have to have so many conditions because their desire is that through their devotional service they want a better material condition. So in this lifetime, the devotional service also they put so many conditions. So we’re therefore again and again we are advised ahaituki apratihata – to be unconditional, to accept whatever is favorable for devotional service, to reject whatever is an obstacle, whatever is unfavorable, to preserve the purity of our devotion.
