Krishna is the original form.

Narayan is the Supreme. Krishna is only Avatar of Vishnu. So then Lord Caitanya said that if Krishna is only an avatar of Narayan, then why is it that Lakshmi the consort of Narayan was doing tapasya to enter into Krishna’s rasalila. Can you answer that? Since Lakshmi is the consort of Narayana, she has Narayana all the time, why is that she is doing tapasya in order to enter into Krishna’s pastime in the rasalila. If she was the original, if Narayana is original they can go anytime. Why they have to do tapasya? Why she is not satisfied already? Why she wants more? I hope she is satisfied, still she wants more. Then Lord Caitanya asked why she was refused entrance. She was thrown out. Even Lord Shiva was allowed in rasalila as a gate keeper. But not Lakshmi. She wasn’t given a gate pass. Because Narayana is a majestic form; Lakshmi is the majestic form of Shakti – opulent form, all powerful form in that aspect. Krishna is the informal…He is the most informal, confidential, the original form. Just like some minister sometimes comes here. He sits on the floor with us. We give him Prasad. He talks with us. But if you go to see him in his office, there he has got the guards outside, we have to wait in line and do all the… then he is big minister. Sometimes the members of the High court, they come with us and they sit and take little Prasad because they like to associate with the saintly people. But if we go to see them in High court, then they’re sitting in their big chair with their wig or their robes. Then you can say to them… there you have to say My Lord, your Lordship and so on. Everything is formal. They walk in the room, you have to stand up in respect for their position, for the court. So Prabhupada explains that Krishna is the original form.

The money by magic wand never sticks

in Jagannath Puri, when Caitanya Mahaprabhu was present, there was one time, that the Rath refused to move, and the King he brought in a thousand stout men, they all pulled, it wouldn’t move. They brought elephants, and the elephants were straining, umm…., wouldn’t move. So the Kind said, What to do, Jagannath refused to move. So then Caitanya Mahaprabhu said, “You untie your elephants and untie your men, my ah… devotees will be chanting kirtan in the front and they will pull the rope and then we will see if Jagannath moves. Then Caitanya Mahaprabhu went on the… they were chanting in the front and He went to the backside, and with his head to the rath, He just applied it, and the rath went forward chk…chk…chk So by the mercy of… because we were supposed to have Nita-Gaur on the rath, and they didn’t bring, and therefore this may also have been the… without Caitanya don’t move so easily before…. So another example giving you accumulation of money by magic wand. Everybody, they are going through this Godmen, with a hope that I will get some magic money, just by the wave of a hand he will give me one diamond ring, or Sico watch or something, but they don’t realize that by definition, Vedas are saying that such money they never sticks. If you actually get a blessing from Krishna, and you become you can become economically developed.

The Demi gods coming as ordinary villagers…

the demigods, they are engaging in praying to the Supreme Personality of Godhead… to the Personality of Godhead, Vishnu, because without the benediction of Vishnu, they are not able to perceive or to free themselves from the undesirable situations of material life. Actually the demigods, they are all devotees of the Personality of Godhead in the Vedas definition of deva is Vishnu Bhakta or a devotee of Vishnu, and the definition of asura is a non-devotee or someone who is a Vishnu vidveshi or someone who is against Vishnu or Krishna.

So when Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu appeared in this material world as the son of mother Saci, at that time all the demigods and demigoddesses, they took the form of ordinary villagers, so that they could come unknown , unannounced and they saw that “Here in this kali yuga here is the form of the Lord coming to benedict the fallen souls.” So the demigods coming as villagers as Brahmanas, Brahmanis – they brought various types of presentations and gave to Jagannath Misra and Sachi Mata. Otherwise no one could recognize them except for very few who had that vision.

So in this way the demigods, they are actually devotees but they are very concerned for the material happiness of the people and they are able to progress in god consciousness also..

Nitai Gaur’s mood – simply compassion & mercy

Lord Caitanya’s mood is like that, bhurida, Nitai Gaur’s mood is simply giving out the mercy. That is the meaning of audharya : simply compassion, simply mercy. Even a person has no possibility for becoming Krishna consciousness without the mercy of Lord Caitanya, they can get the mercy of Lord Caitanya and can be delivered. So this mood – in fact even when Lord Nityananda, when he was attacked by Madhai ( Jagai and Madhai), at that time Lord Caitanya became so impatient, He was calling out Sudarshan chakra. Sudarshan was coming down. It was just ready to strike and kill the two brothers for their offense to Lord Nityananda. And then Lord Nityananda stopped Lord Caitanya and said, “What are You doing? What’re you… have you forgotten? This is not Your mood now. You promised that You’re not going to take up any weapon in kali yuga ; You are supposed to simply give out mercy. He said, I can’t control when My devotee is being attacked, that goes over all other promises. But Nityananda was pleading, in this kali yuga if You hit these two, You’re going to have to get everyone. They’re just symptomatic of so many people. So finally, Jagai Madai, they came to their senses and paid their obeisances, they begged for forgiveness that “Please, please, forgive us.” Lord Caitanya said, “I will pardon you if you promise not to commit sinful actions again, you see. So even though they were so sinful, because they promised not to commit again, once He gave them sehelter, they wouldn’t againg do the same things, then they were completely pardoned and forgiven, you see.

Of course, even after some time, Lord Nityananda was approached by Madhai, where he said that “My Lord, You’ve pardoned me, You’ve given me Your mercy, but I am haunted by the idea that with my hand, I have struck You and I have caused You to bleed. And I am just obsessed with this thought that I have committed this offence to You and how can I actually be forgiven. Even though You’ve pardoned me officially, still I was thinking that I am so rotten, I am so fallen, I am so envious that I could have done such a thing. Then Nityananda, He picked him up, He gave him the shelter of His lotus feet, He said that ” I never took any offense, because I took just like you are My child. If a baby hits the father, does the father take any offence. So I am thinking like that, you are My baby ; so what offence can you do to Me? You didn’t do any offence. Out of foolishness, you did that. So in this way Madhai couldn’t get any… Nityananda didn’t’ accept any offence ; that was His mood that “All right, they’re all my children. All right, they do some nonsense. Won’t take any offense. So then Madhai said all right, but I committed so many offences to other living entities. I did so much sinful activities, how will I be forgiven for those offences? I was so envious. So many living entities– dogs, cats, man, women, children. Who wasn’t I …? I was torturing and persecuting and I was committing so many sinful activities over so many of those people. How will I be forgiven for my offenses against all living entities? Then Nityananda, He considered that. So then He told him that “You can construct a bathing ghat with your own hands on the Ganges. And that way so many people, living entities, so people will be able to go and take bath. And because of that, they will be forgiven for their sinful reactions. By your building the ghat, you will be instrumental to them for that and you will be forgiven for your sinful reactions, for your offences to the other living entities. So Madhai, of course he could have had other people help, but Madhai, he was so enthusiastic that he himself, he took the digging implements and he cut out the ghats, and he personally laid out the stones and everything and built out a beautiful ghat and steps. Ghat is like stairways, you know steps..ghat. I don’t know what you call it in English ; beside the river, call it ghat. You build a stairway right into the water, because if you go ordinarily on the riverside, you get your foot stuck in the mud and then you go wash and come out and again you’ve got to step into mud and then you get dirty again. So they may build stairways right into the water, so that way, you know, it’s very convenient for taking a bath ; otherwise it is difficult on the side of the river. So it goes right down, deep into the water. So Madhai personally dug the, built the, constructed it and then had great devotees inaugurate it and so it became famous as Madhai ghat.

How can we appreciate?

Devotees, they go ultimately up to the intimate pastimes of the Lord. How can the ordinary people understand intimate pastime, unless they understand they’re not the body. Unless they understand they’re pure spirit soul. Unless they understand what is the almighty position of Krishna, how He’s created everything just by a fraction of His glance, just by His slightest desire, everything happens, unless you understand the immense power and potential of Krishna, then you won’t appreciate the beauty and the intimate uh, loving uh, wonder that Krishna takes a humble position as His own devotee, as Caitanya Mahaprabhu, or He takes the position as the servant of His devotee, uh, Partha Sarathi, when He drove Arjuna’s chariot. You won’t appreciate. How can we appreciate?
Unless… If we hear that the President of the United States has come down, and he’s uh, doing some kind of uh, simple work for the common man, then everybody applauds. Because he’s the President, he doesn’t have to do such things. He’s coming down to the common level. That’s something unusual. Great. Right? But if we hear that uh, an ordinary person is doing an ordinary thing, what’s great? What’s the big deal? Ordinary people doing ordinary things, every day. They’re serving eachother, they’re doing this and that. So, unless you can understand Krishna’s position, it’s very hard to appreciate how wonderful are His intimate pastimes, you see.

Part of Caitanya pastime

“All the devotees of the Krishna Consciousness movement are helping Lord Caitanaya in fulfilling His Prediction, which means that they are part of Lord Caitanya’s pastime. If you take everything as Lord Caitanya’s pastime, then everything is blissful and exciting. Lord Caitanya is also Visvambhara – He is sustaining and protecting the entire universe. So there is nothing to fear, but we need to remain faithful to Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu and His representatives.”

Dynamic forms of the Lord

“In this age of Kali, the most dynamic form of the Lord is books and the holy name. The Lord came to this world as Sri Caitanya, as His own devotee, but what did He do? He simply chanted Hare Krishna wherever He went. Then He instructed His followers to write books and, after the books were written, came several acaryas who went out and distributed them.”

Unlimited Mercy

“Lord Chaitanya has got unlimited mercy, unlimited forgiveness. So long as we actually try. If we become a hypocrite; at some point He has His limit, that He will no longer accept hypocrisy. But sincerely, if we give even the slightest bit try, but we make some mistake or we are very weak, that is not a big disqualification in Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s movement, because He is so kind!”

Lord Caitanya’s tree

“We worship Srila Prabhupada as our Founder-Acarya. He is our connection with Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s tree. He has manifested all of the mercy of Lord Caitanya for giving out unlimited shelter to the whole world. Actually, the whole world should be very grateful to Srila Prabhupada. No one should be inimical because he has done what no one has ever done before. He has fulfilled the mercy prediction of Caitanya Mahaprabhu.”

UNFATHOMABLE OCEAN!

“The activities of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu are just like an unfathomable ocean. It is not possible for me to enter into them, but simply standing on the shore, I am but touching the water. Whoever hears the pastimes of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu with faith, analytically studying them attains the ecstatic riches of love of Godhead.”

What gives you enthusiasm to glorify even under such difficult conditions?

I was thinking Lord Caitanya He did not reveal to the people of Navadvip who He was, only few people knew. After ten years He went to the other side of the river to see Rupa and Sanatan Goswami. So the word spread that Gaura Hari is there! Gaura Hari Gaura Hari, Gaura Hari, Gaura Hari, Gaura Hari, Haribol! Mothers who were cooking milk, they neglected the milk and came running. The people whether young or old, men or women, when they hear Lord Caitanya came, they came running and then they were on this side and so went to the boat. The boatman said, wait, wait, don’t overload. But no one was waiting and the boat sunk and there was water up to the knees. People began swimming. The Ganges is normally saffron colour but it became black that day because of all people’s hair. All were chanting Gauranga Gaura Hari, Gauranga Gaura Hari, Gauranga Gaura Hari! So such were the pastimes of Lord Caitanya and the more we hear these pastimes, the more we want to serve the Lord. Although my body may not keep up now but my desire to serve Srila Prabhupad and Lord Caitanya is ever increasing! Haribol!

Greatest oppotunity

“What greater opportunity can the fallen souls in this material world have? They can never have such an opportunity as they are having now, to chant the Hare Krishna Mahamantra and to serve Jagannath and Gauranga. Never will they get such an opportunity again, in billions of billions of years. So take advantage of this opportunity. This is the greatest opportunity. Just give your full energy, your body, your mind, your words, everything in the service of Lord Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. Feel the transcendental pleasure and be transferred to the spiritual platform immediately.”

Grabbing the lotus feet of Nitai Gaur

“Lord Caitanya had rich devotees, poor devotees and He showed that the poor devotee didn’t have to become rich to become liberated, to become fully blessed by Him. Simply he had to keep his devotional service going strong. Similarly, those who were the rich devotees, He didn’t ask them to give up their wealth, but to use it for expanding Krishna consciousness. But they would maintain their same standard of living. But the real thing that Caitanya Mahaprabhu was always seeing was their consciousness. Was their consciousness fully attached to His lotus feet or not? Therefore we should train our mind to simply grab on the lotus feet of Nitai Gaura.”

Shortest Route

“Krishna says that according to the avatars He incarnates in, He assumes a predominantly distinctive mood. As Narasimha deva for instance, He has a preponderance of anger, as Lord Chaitanya, He has a preponderance of the desire to give mercy. In this way, in different avatars, He manifests different moods. So, if you want to get love of Krishna, then Lord Chaitanya is your shortest route.”

Art of attracting the mercy of Caitanya and Nityananda

We should try sincerely to act in a way that is pleasing to Lord Caitanya but we can present our case as being actually the most needy. We should feel like that, that we need His mercy more than else. Everyone else is so advanced, they are so expert, they are so enthusiastic, they are so fixed in their spiritual master’s service. They are in every respect so qualified. Therefore they don’t need the mercy as much as I do. I need the mercy more because I am in a inferior position. This is the art our previous acaryas have shown of attracting the mercy of Lord Caitanya Nityananda. In this way one can also avoid becoming envious of others. You can think “Others are so nice. Let me get the mercy because I need it more.”
