The inject life into the civilization.

One Yogi, he wrote that one of our Prime Minister’s took birth in Sweden as a dog, his next life. He said that there was a millionaire there, who had two dogs, one black dog and one white dog, who were fed several kilos of meat every day and well groomed and cared for and the Prime minister took birth as the white dog. Who can say, if it is your fault? Whether he is playing a joke or he is studying from his own insight?, but actually that could happen, if a person is wanting a comfortable life, then he may get such a life. No anxiety, no fear, plenty of servants and food, you don’t have to worry about anything. To be a Prime Minister is a big headache. All the time people are trying to take away your position, to get the chair. So if he desired like that he could be. You can say… what is that, is that progress? So Krishna consciousness, as Prabhupada wanted to actually inject life into the civilization.

How is it a service to envy someone?

Envy taking shape… any form of intolerance about another devotee achieving some more recognition, or better type of uh, ability to serve is not to be the cause of envy, rather it should be the cause of adoration, or the cause of so many favorable sentiments. You see, envy is something which is completely the opposite of all spiritual sentiments. Just like you can engage everything, kama, lust, you can engage in the service of Krishna. Krodha, greed, sometimes people are very greedy to get all type of things for Krishna’s service. Uh, kama, krodha, lobha… krodha rather is anger. Sometimes uh, Hanuman was angry to see Sita was being offended, you see. Sometimes, even in Dvaraka, there’s some anger, Satyabhama became angry but that was uh, how to satisfy the Lord, better. So, this way, there are different moods in devotional service, but… and they can all be engaged in the service of the Lord. But, this particular thing, envy, to bring the other person down, that is not a desired, because that uh, how will that please Krishna? Rather, how to please Krishna more through service, that is the practical idea. If someone is able to please Krishna more, you know that uh, Krishna appreciates anyone who appreciates His devotee… so by appreciating that devotee, you’re serving Krishna.

Eradicate the last tinge of envy.

The plants, they’re conscious that, “Oh, Tulasi-devi is a greater devotee. She’s got more favor from Krishna.” In material world, if someone is greater, then everyone wants to reduce that person’s power, wants to pull it down, you see. This is the nature of the material world. Nobody can tolerate someone being greater, but in the spiritual world, there’s not a tinge of envy. They’re conscious that, “Oh, Tulasi-devi has done greater austerity. She has greater qualities, therefore the Lord is preferring her.” They’re not envious. They’re trying to do their service to Krishna. If someone is doing better, they’re learning from that. Similarly, the International Society for Krishna Consciousness,… the only way that we can achieve full success is by also completely eradicating every last tinge of envy from the Society, because envy is something which does not exist in the spiritual world. So, therefore, in a spiritual society, there must also be no envy.

How to overcome attachment, fear and anger?

Attachment, fear and anger, how to overcome? There is a verse of this in the Bhagavad Gita and some advice is given there. But in a nutshell, we want to dovetail everything with Krishna consciousness. Instead of being attached to the material world, we are more attached to Krishna and His service. Instead of being angry, because our ego is being pinched or because someone is not giving us the sense gratification we want, or because someone is criticizing us unnecessarily, unconstructively, then if we get angry that is material. But if someone offends a devotee or Krishna, if we get angry that is Krishna conscious. So anger, we try to use it for the right reason, and anger for the wrong reason, we renounce. And since Krishna promises He will protect His devotees, name bhakta pranashyati – My devotee will never be destroyed. So why should we have any fear? Fear is the part of the material world, and fear means that we take it as a caution. But we don’t actually fear absolutely because we depend on the mercy and protection of Krishna. But if He tells us in our mind, that going to this place is dangerous now, we take that also as a warning by Krishna. Just like now, I saw the news that in Louisiana some people were killed in Baton Rouge. So if you live on the border of Louisiana., she does, she lives in New Talavan, she lives on the border of Louisiana, in Mississippi, in Picayune, if Krishna warns that you should not go to Baton Rouge, it is maybe because people are shooting there.

We see that many of the dealings of some vaishnavas makes us angry. How can we got out of this situation?

Guru maharaj: Caitanyadev said trnad api suni chena, taror api sahishuna na, amaanina maana dena, kirtaniya sada Hari! We when we see a vaishnava, if they are not acting right, we get angry but we should not be angry. This vaishnava does not behave right then that is not right in the future, but why should we get angry? We should see what good qualities he has. If we have some responsibility to tell him, then we should after glorifying his good quality, ask as a question or give an example and ask, why did you do? Was it right? Can we imbibe this in our life practice? Will it be okay? Ask a question. Questioning is right. If you say in an accusing way, YOU HAVE ACTED THIS WAY! YOU ARE A BAD PERSON! YOU BEHAVED THIS WAY! IS THAT RIGHT? That will not be right. If that is guru, then guru can get angry with disciples. If you see the vaishnava, are you his guru? How can you get angry with him? Just ask a question, I value your association, you are a senior vaishnava, the thing you did, is it right for me to do that? Praise his good quality. So vaishnava does good acts, follow that and don’t follow his bad acts. But he who is doing service to Krishna, they are certainly very dear to Him. But whatever wrong he does, we will not talk about it. Just It has been told about Haridas Thakur. Some people have good conduct but not good preaching, some people do good preaching but not good conduct. But Harida Thakur had both good conduct and did good preaching as well. You try to do that. Some people have good conduct but don’t do preaching. Some do preaching but do not have good conduct. We want both good conduct, be a good example, and good preaching. Haribol!

A Chance…

“Those who are so unfortunate as to fall away into sense gratification, whatever they have done in their service, they will never go in vain and they get another chance but as Lord Chaitanya said, if someone becomes envious of the spiritual master who has selflessly taken extreme risk to simply deliver him from the worst condition of material birth and death, ignorance; if he becomes blasphemous, envious of the spiritual master, then Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu out of his causeless mercy he says even then he gives him a chance. He will get a chance to have a spiritual master again after one koti kalpa, ten million days of Brahma. He can get a guru again; he gets a chance!”
