The Society in the West

Srila Prabhupad mentioned in the Bhagavad Gita how Lord Krishna reveals that lust was the cause of our conditioning in material life. Srila Prabhupad portrayed the modern society, the society in the west which is more like a jungle and the competitors are like tigers or lions, where every competition is survival of the fittest. People become so frustrated that they commit suicide. They are misusing information for taking advantage and making more money.
So strong desires, lusty desires are keeping people in this bodily concept of life

The spiritual purpose

Vedic culture is very vast it deals with total upliftment of human society. So part of that we find festivals, spiritual festivals poojas yajnas, nice decoration of the body not for any other purpose because it is spiritual occasion festival we are going to worship Vishnu. So wear your best. So the sources on instincts are fulfilled they are dove tailed to spiritual purpose.

Obstacles are the test for ourself

Lord Chaitanya’s promise to deliver all the fallen souls, so Jagai-Madhai, they were delivered. And they were so fallen. How would people know the greatness of Bheeshma, if it hadn’t been sleeping on the bed of arrows, or lying on the bed of arrows, and in spite of such a painful situation, he is offering all the prayers and glories to Krishna. So similarly, in our own consciousness when some obstacles come up, it is also a test for our self, If we are teaching, we depend on Krishna, then actually this also increases our own faith.

*The greater insight*

We are trained to help people who are having bad days. So, this is our special duty. . Then one person said; “Whole my life I was working to be able to show my mother a good future, to cheer my mother, but my mother died. So what’s the use? I am working so hard, just for my mother, my mother is no more. So what am I working for? So today is a very bad day for me. The worst day.” So then he started to show Bhagavad Gita, show the verses, show “This is what life is. Your mother is still living. But her soul is going on. You should take this book. This will give you a greater insight to what is life and how to relieve our anxieties.”

*Remain always enthusiastic*

The sign of actually being a second class devotee is that the devotee doesn’t lose the enthusiasm for devotional service. Obstacles may come, but the enthusiasm doesn’t. We need to remain always enthusiastic – utsaha. When we start off enthusiastically but later we become without enthusiasm. This is a symptom of not such a high level of devotional service. So we need to overcome these different obstacles. Rather the obstacles are like challenges. If we can overcome the obstacles enthusiastically engaging in devotional service, this is an opportunity for us to render more sincere service.

The Proper consciousness

When we have reprehended or we have realized our mistakes, then we should take these as warning that we are not being properly attentive to our devotional service. This means that we are not properly situated in proper consciousness. So, like this the devotee take whatever happens to be a lesson in one way or another.

Preaching is The Desire of the Lord*

There is a group of sahajiyas – devotees who take the whole process very cheaply. They consider that all this preaching is not the highest platform. They encourage people to go directly into the; what they call the ‘sidha bhajan’ or- some kind of intimate devotional service. But they fail to realize is that because this is the desire of the Lord; even though to preach Krishna Consciousness we have to face demons, we have to convince so many people about the voracity of Krishna Consciousness, its validity, its meaning. The actually this is also highest platform because this is desired by the Lord.

The Proper Leader

The monarchical system was very effective in the vedic age. Now-a-days people are against monarchy and they call democracy. But they should understand why monarchy was working in those days, because of qualified leadership. If there is no qualifies leadership, by whatever system you get a leader there, whether by vote or whatever; still citizens would not be properly ruled or be happy. What actually needed is a proper leader. So this is the qualification of a proper leader; to be fully Krishna Conscious.

*Who can remember Krishna*

The thing is that we don’t forget Kṛṣṇa. So in the face of difficulty, but somehow Kṛṣṇa gave His causeless mercy, although I have no devotional purity, but so He was kind enough to allow me to remember Him, and pray to Him. Because that’s the ultimate test, whenever we leave the body, if we can somehow remember Kṛṣṇa… I hope… Somehow … I’m here…I’m still living in this body… I just hope that whenever I have to leave this body I can remember Kṛṣṇa. The Vasinavas bless me that I can remember Kṛṣṇa then. We don’t know what’s going to happen. Some devotees, whether they leave by cancer, or they leave by old age or whether it’s falling asleep at the driving wheel because you’re not careful. You know, we have to learn to become more and more conscious of Kṛṣṇa at every circumstance.

*The Positive Aspect*

Kṛṣṇa, can achieve so many things with one action. How can you say whether this is the reason? It may be one of the reasons. So we have to ultimately take that what happens … that Kṛṣṇa permitted it to happen. There may be many reasons why He permitted it to happen, and just take the positive benefit out of it. Learn from the negative aspects, learn from the positive aspects, learn from every aspect of it.

*Living or dying, everything is perfect.*

one who has the complete shelter of Kṛṣṇa, his life is already a success. While he’s living he is under Kṛṣṇa’s shelter, and he’s in the ecstasy of the sankirtan movement, relishing the devotional service to Kṛṣṇa. And when he leaves this material body, then he goes back to Kṛṣṇa and serves Kṛṣṇa eternally. So, living or dying, everything is perfect.

There’s Nothing but Krsna

I remember one time, Śrīla Prabhupāda, when he was giving a lecture on Queen Kuṇtī, in Māyāpur, and he was talking on the verse niskincana gocara. Kṛṣṇa is only known by those who have nothing. And Śrīla Prabhupāda explained that how wonderful it is to have nothing. And he made a facial expression … How wonderful it is … to have nothing. And it was so expressive, it sounded very deep. Having nothing doesn’t mean of course in an external sense, but actually realizing that everything is Kṛṣṇa’s. That there is nothing but Kṛṣṇa. Kṛṣṇa’s energy and Kṛṣṇa. That everything is the property of Kṛṣṇa.

The Codes of Justice

Prabhupada quotes from manu samhita in the purport , he says a person he murders somebody and he is hanged up materially punished so he is liberated from that sinful activity , what about the karma spiritually because materially he was punished ,no it says here that”o patrha how can a person who knows that the soul is indestructible ,unborn ,eternal ,immutable can kill anyone and cause anyone to kill this is the verse explaining that the body is only killed but soul is indestructible so in the purport Prabhupada says that the violence has its utility how to apply violence rest with the person in the knowledge. although the justice of the peace of awards capital punishment if the person is condemn for murder ,the justice can’t be blamed because he orders violence to another person according to the codes of justice.

The Krishna conscious sight

Devotees are preaching to people to become detached from material ignorance they become angry with the devotees this is tamisra , why you are telling the people to become detached from material ignorance , ignorance is bliss ,they want everyone to remain in ignorance so in the beginning because of this type of ignorances, when the devotee used to preach people are sometime object , they objectbecause they don’t have the proper understanding because they are faithless so gradually by association by giving some knowledge by purification when they understand what is actual the Krishna conscious sight then the very same people they show oh I made a mistake “this is very good ”so this urges are thankless tasks.

Go back to Krishna consciousness*

*

I have a disciple in the South America. He was doing devotional service. He got an inheritance of 18 thousand dollars, which in South America is like a fortune. He left Krsna consciousness, he just broke every principle conceivable , and did so many sinful activities until all his money ran out . Then he came back to the temple completely burnt out, wanted to again get a position, you know… It’s a real sudra kind of mentality. You get a little bit and you forget everything. It’s like the person works all month to get a pay check, and the first thing they do is get drunk. It shouldn’t be like that.

*The Lower mentality*

We have, we get a little bit of opportunity for sense gratification, and whopee! we forget Krsna consciousness. And after the material situation is finished , then “O I am suffering again , let’s go back to Krsna consciousness .” That’s lack of character , lower than the sudra kind of mentality ; even the sudras don’t do that.

Keep Krishna in your conscious

The Infinitesimal Happiness

Without spiritual practice, without Krsna consciousness, life is very dry, very empty. By trying to please the senses and the mind, there is a very limited kind of happiness that one gets. It’s not that one does not feel happy ; certainly there is happiness in the material world. But that happiness is very infinitesimal, very limited. It’s not enough to satisfy us.

Add Absolute Truth in your life

The point that Prabhupada made : people are not happy, because there is imbalance . It’s not properly balanced . We can use all these things in Krsna’s service , if we have the higher objective. These are like so many zeros. We have to put the digit 1 before them. If we put number 1 before them, then all the zeros have meaning . Without number 1, without the Supreme Absolute Truth , everything is simply zero. In the end, it all gets perished.

The spiritual sacrifices

You will find that, for instance, people say, “Let me go out and do some independent business and I will give some donation to Krsna in the future. Just like they sacrifice their devotional service, sometimes they also sacrifice their spiritual practices–neglecting their japa chanting of hare Kṛṣṇa, or neglecting morning programs. And they think, “Well I’ll do this now and later on all will go.” But then they get out of habit, they become spiritually weakened and they become susceptible to maya. So there are no circumstances anything worth sacrificing our spiritual life.
