*The greatest prediction*

Everyone has got a built in finishing date, but in the spiritual world, since everyone is eternal, there’s no limitations. To be able to achieve this shelter of Kṛṣṇa and this realization is considered to be the greatest benediction. One can easily achieve that by regular practice of Kṛṣṇa consciousness and by chanting the Hare Kṛṣṇa Maha mantra. Hare Kṛṣṇa Hare Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Hare Hare, Hare Rāma Hare Rāma Rāma Rāma Hare Hare.

The chanting haunt

The main thing is we need to chant Hare Krishna within our daily activities, while we are driving, or while we are working, in the morning when we get up, you can spend little time; we can chant Hare Krishna, in this way it helps to bring our consciousness into the proper attitude of service to Krishna. So that is why we chant every day, we try to chant 16 rounds to guarantee that to a good extent that if we try we can remain Krishna conscious.

Save the soul with Harinam

Generally some kind of people are not very interested in chanting Hare Krishna, but in some cases they do chant, and they are able to also be rectified . It’s not an eternal condition of the soul. It’s a mentality which develops as a conditioning or covering of the soul . So if they remain in that attitude for an extended period of human birth, then they can go back into the animal kingdom , and they become snakes or other kind of envious creatures, and anyone they see they bite them. Like a snake doesn’t gain anything by biting anyone, it’s not like you have to step on a snake to bite, just walk by it will bite you. It’s envious. Scorpion doesn’t…. cant eat you, bite you anyway. Just if you are lying down, sleeping, a scorpion come and bite you just for the sake of biting you off, doesn’t eat you. So there are certain envious creatures, so people who are very demoniac , then they take birth in the future as snakes or scorpions, and then they can, and that’s why they have added in their natural habitat, around and bite people So we are trying to why they are here as human beings…..harinam and little holy name of Krishna, or they get some prasadam, may be they can be saved from that kind of a future damnation, future hellish situation.

Quitting the negative by chanting

Quitting with negative by chanting

This is recommended by Chaitanya Mahaprabhu that people should sing the glories of the Lord. The world is already filled with negative vibrations. There are so many things. So this movement is to turn around that complete negative vibration through a very humble appeal but a very enthusiastic appeal to everyone to take up the chanting of Hare Krishna, and if you see how Nityanandaprabhu and His associates and the previous acharyas following after Him, how they systematically spread this Krishna consciousness movement everywhere.

The significance of chanting

Lord Chaitanya chants all of his entire life, Haridas Thakur chanted all of his entire life. Everyone is chanting, that narada muni who liberated soul, who travel all of the universe, he also chant Hare Krishna. Wherever you go the chanting is actually more important than any other process the first nine processes of devotional service hearing and chanting and remembering. Smaranam, Kirtanam Vishnu, smaranamVishnu So we can take easily that the process of chanting Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna hare hare hare rama hare hare rama rama hare hare.

Make Krishna dance on your lips

Krishna will sit in our heart constantly and He’ll dance on our lips as we chant His names. The name of Krishna and Krishna are not different. So by chanting Krishna you can experience the presence of Krishna there in that vibration. And that presence of Krishna is what is purifying. That is what gives us an experience beyond the mind. So this is not really easy to understand. This is also explained by Narada muni. He said SB 7.10.50 — Exalted persons like Lord Śiva and Lord Brahmā could not properly describe the truth of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Kṛṣṇa. May the Lord, who is always worshiped as the protector of all devotees by great saints who observe vows of silence, meditation, devotional service and renunciation, be pleased with us. But actually it’s very difficult to explain this position of the supreme person.

Devotees are more intelligent than the normal people

A group of psychologist did a study in Los Angeles of the devotees and they said that they were so much complained saying that they were brain-.washed or something like that, because people get that idea in the West because we chant Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare. They think this makes you into a mindless idiot because you are listening to this mantra. You can listen to this rock and roll the whole day, that doesn’t make you into a mindless idiot but if you chant the name of God that makes your mind… This is their presumption. They hear at full blast for hearing… “I cant a get nose at this fashion” All this things, that doesn’t make you into a mindless idiot but if you chant the name of God, that makes you mindless… this is their idea, this makes you brainwash. Prabhupada he retorted that they have no brain to wash. We came to give them brain. We came from India to give them intelligence, they have no spiritual intelligence. So this psychologists, so they were neutral people, they did a study of the devotees and they found that the devotees were not brainless idiots. That on an average they are more intelligent than the normal people and they are more… psychologically they are more self-sufficient.

No hard and fast rule for chanting

Caitanya Mahaprabhu… Caitanya Mahaprabu was in His lila, who was acting like an ordinary person, and so temporarily He went into the bathroom, and one small boy brought water to Him whose name was Gopal, and He called it to Lord Caitanya that why He was not chanting the name of Krishna, then Lord Caitanya said, “Well, this is a unclean place.” Little Gopal said, “But you never know when you are going to die, so you should chant every time, every place. So then Lord Caitanya said, “since you are instructing me, you are no longer Gopal, now you are Guru, Gopal Guru.” Of course, it’s not the position of anyone to instruct Lord Caitanya. Little boy, he accepted his instructions, which has meant in a good way. So yes, this is correct. So he became known as Gopal Guru, and he wrote a book on chanting the holy name. Later he became ah… active preacher of Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s movement. So there is no hard and fast rule. Lord Caitanya has told us, “Namnam akari bahuda nija sarva saktis, tatrapitah niyamah smarane na kalah.” So we should take up the chanting as our prime responsibility. You find these recent instructions are given, many times in the scriptures in many different ways.

The right choice!

Nothing to lose, with so much to gain. Krishna tells Arjuna in the Bhagavat Gita, “Now you decide. Now it is your decision. You can fight or you can leave.” Throughout the Vedas we find that there is a choice. For us it may be that normally, those who are godly people they make the godly choice, and those who are ungodly people make the ungodly choice, the demoniac choice. That maybe the normal result that you find. Nonetheless the choice is there. Somehow or another we should try to make the right choice. We should try to… even if we find that our impulse is to make the wrong choice, do not choose to hear spiritual matters, to rather to hear materialistic matters, we should try hear spiritual matters. Again and again, we should try to… that is to our own good interest. Nama Sankirtanachaya me, and we should hear Krishna’s holy name, chant Krishna’s holy name. Actually in the Vedas, in devotional service there are various angas or principle practices that we are recommended to do. There are so many subsidiaries advises that are also given. So of the 64 items, there are some items which are very important. In out of all of those items, the item which is most important… you have to one item out of all 64, then you should do this nama sankirtanam, you should chant in the congregational chanting of the holy names of Krishna, because that can be done whether a person is pure or impure, clean or unclean, no matter what circumstance, what situation he is in, he can engage in this namasankirtanam. Whether a suci, or asuci, whatever. There is no such restriction. There may be some restriction to worship the deity under certain circumstances, but there is no such restriction for chanting the holy name.

The vibration is the way of purification.

someone doesn’t have another name or if, is one is open minded and conceive that this names are effective, so why not chant them? Then we invite everyone to take this opportunity and chant Hare Krishna kirtans. Krishna’s just a name for God in Sanskrit, but these names are very time-proved to be successful. There are other names which are also names of God but may address different mood or aspect of, the Lord or a different it’ll be a different, so there are different kind of vibration, which may not be as effective for purification. Still it will be more effective than another process in this particular day. The vibration is the way of purification, vibrating these sacred or transcendental names.

The bit of chanting creates big change in life

Anybody can chant. You don’t have to change your lifestyle or anything.” I was interviewed also by one radio interviewer here in the West and uh, I suggested, “Why don’t you try meditating and chanting Hare Krishna.” He said, “Well I don’t want to shave my head.” “No, you can chant without doing all these things. You can chant any time, any place.” “Really? Well if that’s so, I’m more interested.” And people will… haven’t really understood that anybody can chant Hare Krishna and actually the people who are living in our temples, they’re very advanced. They’re yogis. They’re people who want to actually achieve perfection in this life, but everyone can begin on the path of perfection by chanting. Basically the nama-hatta movement, which has been uh, stated as the folk movement here in the West is to get everyone in their own houses, in their own villages and towns, cities, to chant

Hare Krishna Hare Krishna

Krishna Krishna Hare Hare

Hare Rama Hare Rama

Rama Rama Hare Hare

Srila Prabhupada, he said that there’s no reason why in every country… why every country of the world and every place in the world that every family can’t chant Hare Krishna every day. There’s no reason why somebody can’t chant Hare Krishna in their house. That simply it’s a question of promoting it and letting people know about this chanting of Hare Krishna. Those who are a little broad-minded, even a little inquisitive, they can try it, and by chanting, if they get even a fraction, just a little bit of chanting, they’ll be able to experience the most sublime change in their lives.

So, basically now due to their fear, their paranoia, their prejudices, they’re trying to keep this Hare Krishna mantra hidden. They’re not able to see the beauty of it. Just like Devaki was having such a great beauty, but due to Kamsa keeping her locked up in the prison, no one could see, so somehow or another, we have to break free from this prison, which the media and different uh, paranoiac people have placed whereby the normal… I don’t know normal, the common person is not able to take the advantage and see what is the real beauty of this Hare Krishna mantra. So that is only possible by all of you taking up the order of Caitanya Mahaprabhu and requesting everyone, from house to house, from person to person, to try and take up the chanting of

Hare Krishna Hare Krishna

Krishna Krishna Hare Hare

Hare Rama Hare Rama

Rama Rama Hare Hare

The real happiness is mad after Krishna

In India, the people are very much afraid of giving up their sense gratification. They know that if you become a pure devotee of Krishna, you become so mad after Krishna that you forget about so many material attachments. They know that, so they are thinking that if a person becomes so much in love with Krishna, is so happy that even material things become insignificant, so it’s not that it’s uh, but their looking at it from the very attached point of view, that, “I don’t want to give up my family attachment or my sense gratification attachment or my business attachment or my society attachment or any of these attachments, that therefore let me not chant Hare Krishna or be part of the Hare Krishna movement except at a very great distance. I might give them a donation or something.” This is the Indian point of view. Many people are very afraid of becoming intimately connected. One family, their son became a devotee; they became very upset. They said, “Listen. You can come to the temple, do everything, but you shouldn’t become a full ti…

…have a respect, it’s just that they’re afraid themselves of losing any form of sense gratification. All these people are bewildered. If they’re actually sincere about becoming happy, and they’re progressively, step by step they’re feeling more and more happy, and if ultimately that happiness means that actually they’re mad after Krishna, if that’s the highest happiness, then where is the problem? But of course, some people, they’re not very intelligent, so they try to avoid good attachments. That’s why to Lord Caitanya’s followers be the intelligent people. That the very intelligent people, they’ll be able to… they’ll join Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s movement. But at least, everyone, if they start to take up the chanting.

Lord Caitanya is actually giving the dessert first.

Caitanya Mahāprabhu, His special mercy is that this ecstasy that Mahārāja Bhārata is achieving, that ecstasy he gets very quickly. Eventually Prabhupad in one of his purports in the Caitanya-Caritāmṛta described how some of these unauthorized groups just by repeatedly chanting the name of Lord Caitanya, they become ecstatic, they start to laugh or cry. Because Caitanya Mahāprabhu, His specialty is that His special nomenclature or His special uniqueness is that He is not accepting offences in chanting the Holy Name. If a person were just to chant the name

Hare Kṛṣṇa Hare Kṛṣṇa

Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Hare Hare/

Hare Rāma Hare Rāma

Rāma Rāma Hare Hare

it takes very regulated life, great purity, considerable constant attention and then like Mahārāja Bhārata left everything and living in the forest doing his regulated worship, wearing deer skin, eating little, everything regulated, chanting constantly, worshiping all the time engaged, no material attachments. No offences to the Vaiṣṇavas, there wasn’t anybody there. Then he was able to get this love for Kṛṣṇa, preliminary love for Krishna, ecstatic love for Kṛṣṇa. It was given by Kṛṣṇa previously but to those who were completely nirmatsaraanaam, completely free of all enviousness, all offences.

But Caitanya Mahāprabhu, not that He is promoting that one should be offensive or anything, but He knows that everyone has got so many embarrassing mentality, so many defects, He is giving the mercy that if you chant Hare Krishna taking shelter of Him, He gives immediate mercy which normally would take a lot longer to achieve. So once one gets a taste for Lord Caitanya’s mercy, for this transcendental happiness, then one should be very careful to give up anything which could be offensive. It is the only responsible thing to do. Śrīla Prabhupāda explains like in a feast the kids are always very impatient so you give them the dessert first. Lord Caitanya is actually giving the dessert first, giving a little taste of a little ecstasy first, then you go back to the main course. You are also still have to go through the principles of devotional service, not that we neglect that, but even someone might come just in a ratha yatra festival off the street by chanting and feel some great happiness. Just like nāmābhāsa, special mercy of Lord Caitanya which normally would be highly unlikely in the ordinary circumstances without Lord Caitanya’s mercy. Once they are getting the higher taste they can get just a drop of the ocean of happiness that they will experience when they become pure, the special rain of benediction by Lord Nitai-gaura so that we can come up to the higher platform very easily:

Chant without any conditions

If you want to be happy, chant Hare Krishna for the pleasure of Krishna. It came up one time; they wanted to chant to rain or something. Prabhupad said, “No, no, we will chant without any conditions.” But Prabhupad’s chanting was so powerful that any way it rained. But that is not our condition, we do not make any conditions to Krishna, He is svatantra, He is independent. And we have full faith that by satisfying Him, we will be satisfied. If He is satisfied mamaivāṁśo jīva-loke jīva-bhūtaḥ sanātanaḥ, we are His parts, we will be satisfied. There is no independent endeavor required.

Harinam sankirtan “the best worship”

We can go on just me… mechanically, it will just take longer. That is all. The danger is that the mind may distract us. So therefore we are supposed to concentrate, we are supposed to put our mind to it. Man mana bhava mad bhakto, put our mind to being a devotee of Krishna. Man mana bhava mad bhakto, mad yaji… to worship Krishna, serve Him, engage, what is the best worship? Harinam sankirtan. It is the best worship. He said that of all the sacrifices I am japa, I’m chanting the holy names.

Of course even greater than japa, everyone knows is sankirtana. Cooperatively glorifying the Lord’s holy name. mad yaji mam namaskuru and we do it not in some kind of, you know, false pride but, namaskuru, in a humble way. We bow down to Him, we surrender to the Lord, we offer Him our obeisances. We take the shelter that He’s offering and with that we engage our mind, we be His devotee and we glorify Him and worship Him. This creates all good fortune for everyone.

Medicine for Maya

In the material world there are so many diseases but ultimately of course it ends in death, sooner or later. And even if one gets a cure, another one comes. So, when Lord Caitanya said, enechi ausadi maya, nasibaro lagi “I have brought the medicine for maya.” This medicine is such a medicine that it completely eradicates maya. That means that with this medicine, you don’t have to take any more medicine. This is like the tendency of Ponce de Leon, they put his stamp on a letter I got. He was looking for the Fountain of Youth. You see, he died of old age before he found it, anyway. The uh, problem is that everyone is looking for that eternal youth, they’re looking for that way of remaining permanently in this material body. Well, Lord Caitanya has actually brought the medicine whereby one can achieve eternal life and one can completely eradicate all the miseries of maya in the most sublime way.

Chanting – the perfect yoga

if a person chants Hare Krishna and he gets the ecstatic experiences, transcendental ecstasy, transcendental bliss, then it’s very easy to… for that person to motivate himself, to go beyond this bodily consciousness into perfecting yoga. But in spite of all good experiences, and good instructions, if someone hasn’t actually achieved that experience yet, and is somehow or another not able to coordinate the mercy of Lord Nityananda due to regularly chanting Hare Krishna, and following the other systems, or just somehow or another isn’t able to get the mercy of Nityananda, which means a person is most unfortunate because Lord Nityananda gives His mercy to anyone who wants it, and instead if that the person is completely materially absorbed, and mad after trying to satisfy the senses, then he doesn’t get any time to see beyond the body.

Work Now, Samadhi later

Don’t think… Chanting is the most difficult thing. It is the most difficult thing to chant with full consciousness, will full attention, with full enthusiasm and not to become distracted. It is most difficult, you see. Just like Prabhupada said, work now, Samadhi later. By doing this preaching, by doing this service, by becoming purified, we get the qualification that we can chant more, we can read more, that we can concentrate more. It doesn’t work the other way. Of course we are all chanting too, but to chant more than 16 rounds a day in the beginning stages is not that productive as engage fully 24 hours a day in constant devotional service, especially in preaching activity. Not only because there’s emergency situation, just like when the house is on fire, that now preaching is most essential and is especially required that even if a person was capable or is capable of chanting even then – one time we were chanting in Calcutta temple we were all chanting 32 rounds and Tamal Krishna Maharaj came and told Prabhupad that Acyutananda Maharaj, Jayapataka and all of them are all chanting 32 rounds and he said if you sit and chant 32 rounds, then who is going to go out and preach? This is my order, you chant 16 rounds and immediately go out and preach, otherwise who is going to do the preaching? Even if we could do the chanting, Prabhupad wasn’t very impressed. Of course not that, these are specifics – particular advice at that moment. There might be other advices for other people in other situations. But he wanted us to go out and establish Krishna consciousness in India. And if we sitting and chanting japa then what’s going to happen? So in that sense Prabhupada, even if a person was capable of chanting, still Prabhupada wanted us that it’s priority to preach. And actually by preaching, what chanting one does do, one can actually appreciate more intensely. So this preaching is something very wonderful. It is a whole science of preaching that this is a special benediction, a special opportunity for us to make very rapid advancement. And.. Especially in kali yuga there are unlimited opportunities to preach. In satya yuga you won’t get that fired up to preach, because here now maya is so obvious and the mercy of Lord Caitanya is so great .

Fill your heart with spiritual happiness

When a person renders devotional service without hearing and chanting, that is basically what karma yoga is. Doing some service, of course karma yoga, maybe that one is working and giving the fruits of the labor. If it is doing something which is specifically ordered by the guru then of course it comes more under bhakti. The problem without chanting and hearing is that the consciousness does not become purified. The power of purification in this kali yuga is in the chanting of Hare Krishna. Just like in every age, there is a yuga dharma. So in general, devotional service is to be performed. But in this age, just like in the other age meditation was the system, then sacrifice, and temple worship. So this age the system to purify the consciousness is hearing and chanting, sankirtan. If a person renders devotional service without hearing and chanting, then the danger is that the person’s getting spiritual credit, but the desire to engage in spiritual activity may not be counteractive. That desire, that seed is there in our heart to engage in materialistic activity and to counteract that we need the mercy of Nityananda. We need to fill our hearts with spiritual happiness, you see. So rendering devotional service is sensitive, we are still a bit too covered up to fully relish the real benefit of the service that he is doing at that time. And so the danger is that the person can become misled again into material activities. It’s like when you are on a battleship which is firing but it does not have its radar, the defenses. It’s only doing something but it does not have any defense. The chanting is both defense as well as offence both, but it actually protects us and gives us the opportunity, that ability to relish. It gives us the spiritual realization For just the service alone, in this particular age, it’s difficult for one to actually be able to experience the transcendental happiness and transcendental realization just by their service.
